Nanogravure™
Nanogravure™ security element for banknotes has become possible by introducing XXI century nanotechnology methods into image origination. Owing to this unique methodology proprietary to Optaglio, Nanogravure™ is a single-source technology, which is extremely counterfeit resistant and will remain so for the foreseeable future.
The Nanogravure™ technology is aimed to significantly enhance banknote security. It is a nanotechnology-based imaging method enabling to create a portrait with a highly unusual visual appearance, which will ensure reliable visual authentication by the public and experts alike, and also to incorporate a wide range of forensic features. Nanogravure™ is optimised for poor lighting conditions, which makes it ideal for public recognition in everyday life, and is extremely resistant crumple and wear. Nanogravure™ cannot be counterfeited using other imaging techniques available at this time.
The key to authenticating a Nanogravure™ image is what we call "visual tactility" - a unique combination of visual impression and tactility, somewhat similar to the intaglio print in principle, but working in reverse. Whereas a fine-line apparently flat intaglio printing gives a "raised" feel to the touch, a Nanogravure™ image appears mechanically engraved or embossed i.e. gives a visual impression of being raised above or sunk below the surface of the note, while it is completely flat to the touch. This simple and efficient authentication method is a result of a complex nanostructure that is assembled at ultra-high resolution using our proprietary methodologies. Nanogravure™ is an example of how simplicity is achieved through extreme complexity.
Nanogravure™ is available exclusively to Central Banks, banknote paper mills and banknote printers as an origination and/or as a finished component for application onto banknotes (in the form of hot-stamping foil stripe or registered patch).
